Patriots of Russia (Russian: Патриоты России, Patrioty Rossii) are a left-wing nationalist and socialist political party in Russia. It was established in April 2005 by Gennady Semigin, who was expelled from Communist Party of Russian Federation after he failed in a power struggle with Gennady Zuganov.

History of party

In 2006 Gennadiy Semigin and his new party “Patriots of Russia” joined the Rodina faction in the Duma. Following Rodina merger with the Russian Party of Life and the Russian Pensioners' Party under leadership of Sergey Mironov in October 2006 into a new party Just Russia, “Patriots of Russia” declared its intention to run as a separate party in the Russian 2007 elections.

Party of Russia's Rebirth, led by former Duma speaker Gennady Seleznev, merged with PoR.

Ideology

The patriots are a left-wing nationalist and socialist political party. It is anti NATO and the United States.

Electoral results

On the Russian 2007 elections they won 0.89% of votes, not breaking the 7% barrier, and thus no seats in duma.

On election deputy legislative organ subject to Russian Federation 1 March 2009 party has got 4 places from 73 in Karachay-Cherkessia and 3 from 75 in Khakassia.[1]
