The People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) is a leftist coalition formed in October 2011 in Turkey. It is a successor of the Labour, Democracy and Freedom Bloc. It is strongest in the Kurdish areas of Turkey and in urban areas with substantial Kurdish populations. A few of its MPs are Kurds who remain in prison. HDK was active in the protests in Taksim Gezi Park in Istanbul.[1]
